Fertile Ground - a hint of what's to come

Fertile Ground, 2020, studio wall, paintings in progress, adventitious wall marks, approximate area 7 x 9 feet

As Winter turns to mud season and Spring slips into the studio, I've been sifting through a metaphorical seed box, looking for what I might plant in the way of new paintings. For starters, I plowed the ground by painting over a group of panels with some mud mixes. On Thursday, I saw these mud colors as a place where I might transplant a single mark of light from the wall to a panel, and extend that across the group. Beyond that first mark, I have no idea how they will grow to be completed paintings. It must be similar to planting a packet of "wildflower mix," then waiting to see what comes to bloom, cornflowers or pot marigolds, anything the butterflies and bees will love.
