Is There Something We Can Do - Slipcase edition

$585.00

Is There Something We Can Do explores our relationship to the earth in a sequence of watercolors and texts presented in a circular accordion format, to be read in the round or displayed as sculpture. In 2013, I was invited to be part of an exhibition called  Turning in Your Hand: the Blue Marble Project. Artists and environmentalists were asked to respond to the gift of a blue marble by making work that considered the earth as the pale blue dot we call home. As my response, I made thirty-one watercolors, one for each day of December.  Each day’s watercolor is accompanied by words noting the drawing process, the weather, and the condition of the ocean as seen from my studio. Selections from ancient Buddhist texts give the sequence of days a subtle narrative that develops as the month progresses.

Is There Something We Can Do is a limited edition of 50 signed and numbered copies, divided evenly between 25 boxed books accompanied by one of the original signed watercolors and a blue marble, and 25 slipcased books with a limited edition signed archival pigment print. A limited number of copies remains available.

Is There Something We Can Do is housed at The Haas Art Library, Yale University, and in Special Collections and Archives at Bowdoin College.

“The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now.”
